Low dose Naltrexone

A Revolutionary Generic Drug

What is Naltrexone?

Naltrexone is an opioid antagonist. Years of research has shown a relationship between partial opioid blockade and pain signaling and immune system modulation.  This opioid blockade may hold the key to unlocking immune system modulation using your very own endorphins!

Why is this important?

Dr. Bihari was the first physician to record the effects of naltrexone on the immune system. In a 1985 HIV/AIDS study, he showed the group on naltrexone showed a slowing of the declining immune system in HIV patients compared to the placebo group. After this landmark study, numerous studies were conducted examining the link between endorphin levels and the immune system. After years of study, it was concluded endorphins play a pivotal role in regulating the immune system.

How does it work?

LDN works by partially blocking the opioid receptors throughout the body causing the body to produce more natural endorphins therefore modulating pain tolerability and immune system function.

How can LDN be used for so many disease states?

On the surface, many disease states such MS, Lupus, Cancer, Inflammatory Bowel, and thyroid disorders seem completely different. Interestingly, the root cause of many of these disease states is simply a dysfunctional immune system. LDN can help correct immune system function through blockade of the opioid receptor thus increasing natural endorphin levels.

We have experience in LDN being used for the following disease states.

  • Depression

  • Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis

  • Weight Loss

  • Autism

  • Cancer

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis

  • Lupus

  • Multiple Sclerosis

  • Inflammatory Bowel

  • Chronic Fatigue or Fibromyalgia

  • Thyroid Disorders

  • Restless Leg Syndrome

Suggested Therapy Dosage

Your Doctor will usually start treatment at a very low dose and increase gradually over a period of weeks. The starting dose can vary depending on the medical condition, but we typically see a dose starting at 0.5mg to 1.5mg. It can be increased slightly over several weeks to a target dose of 4.5mg.

At The Compounding Shoppe, we have many patients on LDN. We have witnessed the reported improvement in symptoms of many patients. Although not all patients experience tremendous benefit the improvement can’t only be attributed to a placebo effect.
